High School Gear on Sale
In about two months, Lincoln-Way West High School will open its doors in New Lenox Township.
However, students don’t have to wait that long to sport the school’s new look.
Today, people can purchase West spirit wear at the New Lenox Village Hall, 1 Veterans Parkway.
Everything from key rings to pullover windbreakers sporting the orange, black and white school colors will be on sale.
Monica Schmitt, principal of the new school, said prices will range from $5 for lanyards to about $40 for the jackets.
“People are so excited to start wearing the orange and black,” Schmitt said. “It’s a real exciting time for the west side of the district to go in and start wearing their colors.”
Other items on sale include polo shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants, hats and water bottles.
Having the West spirit gear available allows students, who soon will walk the halls of the 414,000-square-foot building at Gouger Road and Illinois Highway, to feel they are part of something.
“It brings about unity and also an identity,” she said. “Our West students have been competing in black and white. Now West can really start going and establishing its own identity.”
The spirit wear flaunts the newest member of the Lincoln-Way family, the Lincoln-Way West Warrior.
Schmitt says the warrior, who currently doesn’t have a name, will be on most spirit wear along with the word warrior or the letter w in a circle on the items.
“There’s a good variety of spirit wear for people to chose from, Schmitt said.
West will be the fourth school in Lincoln-Way District 210. The $90 million building sits on 100 acres and is slated to open Aug. 18.
